Day 1

Asset Management Strategy & ISO 55000

Apply the ISO 55000 framework to develop an effective organisational asset management system.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

ISO 55000 Framework

  • ISO 55001 requirements: context, leadership, planning, support, and evaluation
  • Strategic asset management plan (SAMP): purpose and content
  • Asset management policy: scope, commitments, and communication
  • Value from assets: balancing cost, risk, and performance
Module 2

Maintenance Strategy Selection

  • RCM methodology: functions, functional failures, and failure consequences
  • Maintenance task types: scheduled restoration, discard, and on-condition
  • FMEA: failure mode identification and task selection
  • Maintenance strategy documentation and living document management
Module 3

Asset Criticality & Risk Ranking

  • Criticality ranking methodology: safety, environment, production, and cost
  • Risk matrix application: likelihood × consequence scoring
  • Criticality tiers: A, B, C classification and maintenance implications
  • Asset register development: data quality and completeness requirements
Practical Workshop

Criticality ranking workshop: teams apply a risk matrix to a provided equipment list, assign criticality tiers, and define the maintenance strategy basis for each tier.

Day 2

Reliability Engineering & Failure Analysis

Apply reliability engineering tools to reduce failure frequency and improve asset availability.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

Reliability Metrics

  • Failure rate (λ), MTTF, MTBF, and MTTR: calculation and application
  • Availability, reliability, and maintainability (RAM): system measures
  • Weibull analysis: two-parameter model and probability plot
  • Bath-tub curve: infant mortality, useful life, and wear-out
Module 2

Root Cause Analysis

  • Apollo root cause analysis: cause and effect tree construction
  • 5-Whys analysis: iterative questioning technique
  • Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagram: cause categories and facilitation
  • Barrier analysis and ICAM methodology for safety incidents
Module 3

Failure Mode Analysis Tools

  • FMEA vs. FMECA: when to use each approach
  • FMECA worksheet: severity, occurrence, detection, and RPN
  • Fault tree analysis (FTA): Boolean logic, cut sets, and top event probability
  • Reliability block diagram (RBD): series, parallel, and k-of-n systems
Practical Workshop

FMECA workshop: groups conduct a failure mode analysis on a centrifugal pump system, rank failure modes by RPN, and propose targeted maintenance tasks for the top five failures.

Day 4

Turnaround Planning & Execution

Plan, schedule, and control plant turnarounds to maximise value and minimise duration.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

Turnaround Scope Development

  • Scope identification: regulatory, opportunity, and deferred maintenance
  • Work order screening: inclusion criteria and value-based justification
  • Scope freeze discipline: managing late scope additions
  • Turnaround philosophy: risk-based interval setting and scope justification
Module 2

Schedule Development & Resource Planning

  • Critical path method (CPM): activity sequencing and float analysis
  • Resource levelling: manpower histograms and trade balance
  • Material management: pre-ordering, kitting, and lay-down areas
  • Contractor selection and management: SSOW, competency, and performance
Module 3

Execution Control & Close-out

  • Progress measurement: physical % complete and earned value
  • Daily execution meetings: safety briefings and critical path review
  • Change control: scope growth log and cost impact assessment
  • Post-turnaround review: cost, duration, safety, and reliability KPIs
Practical Workshop
