Day 1

Natural Gas Industry & Processing Fundamentals

Understand the natural gas value chain and core processing operations.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

Natural Gas Value Chain

  • Upstream production: gas reservoirs, wellhead, and gathering systems
  • Gas processing: sweetening, dehydration, fractionation, and NGL extraction
  • Midstream: compression, pipelines, storage, and LNG
  • Downstream: distribution, power generation, and industrial use
Module 2

Gas Composition & Properties

  • Natural gas components: methane, ethane, C3+, CO2, H2S, and nitrogen
  • Gas quality specifications: heating value, Wobbe index, and dew point
  • PVT properties: z-factor, compressibility, and equation of state
  • Hydrate formation: prediction, inhibition, and pipeline pigging
Module 3

Gas Processing Operations

  • Dehydration: glycol contactors, molecular sieves, and dew point control
  • Gas sweetening: amine treating, physical solvents, and Claus unit
  • NGL extraction: J-T expansion, refrigeration, and turboexpander processes
  • Compression: centrifugal and reciprocating compressors for gas service
Practical Workshop

Gas processing design review: teams evaluate a simplified gas processing flow scheme, identify operability issues, and propose optimisation measures for NGL recovery.

Day 3

Pipeline Integrity Management

Apply risk-based integrity management to maintain pipeline safety and fitness for service.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

Pipeline Threat Assessment

  • Pipeline threat categories: internal corrosion, external corrosion, and third-party damage
  • Pipeline integrity management programme (PIMP): API 1160 and ASME B31.8S
  • Consequence analysis: high consequence areas (HCAs) and risk zones
  • Failure statistics: CONCAWE and DOT incident data analysis
Module 2

Inspection Technologies

  • Intelligent pigging: MFL, UT, and geometry tools
  • In-line inspection (ILI) data analysis: defect sizing and remaining life
  • Direct assessment: ECDA, ICDA, and SCCDA methodology
  • Hydrostatic testing: test pressure, duration, and spike testing
Module 3

Integrity Assessment & Repair

  • ASME B31G: modified criterion for corrosion defects
  • RSTRENG and DNV RP-F101: assessment of internal and external metal loss
  • Pipeline repair methods: composite sleeves, full-encirclement sleeves, and hot tapping
  • Fitness for service: remaining life calculation and re-inspection interval
Practical Workshop

ILI data analysis: teams review a provided intelligent pigging report, identify and classify defects by severity, determine fitness for service, and prioritise repair actions.

Day 5

Gas Markets, Commercial Structures & Energy Transition

Evaluate natural gas markets, commercial arrangements, and gas's role in energy transition.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

Natural Gas Markets & Pricing

  • Regional gas markets: Henry Hub, TTF, NBP, JKM, and Asian LNG pricing
  • Gas pricing mechanisms: oil-indexed, spot, and hybrid contracts
  • Gas trading: spot, forwards, futures, and basis swaps
  • LNG contract structures: DES, FOB, SPA, and price review clauses
Module 2

Gas & LNG Commercial Structures

  • Long-term LNG SPA: take-or-pay, volume flexibility, and destination clauses
  • Gas transportation agreements: capacity booking, interruptible supply, and tariffs
  • Gas storage agreements: working gas, deliverability, and seasonal pricing
  • Midstream project financing: tariff structure and revenue assurance
Module 3

Natural Gas in Energy Transition

  • Gas as transition fuel: role in power generation and heating decarbonisation
  • Methane emissions: leakage rates, OGMP 2.0, and methane action plans
  • Low-carbon gas: biomethane blending and hydrogen-natural gas mixing
  • Gas infrastructure repurposing: H2-ready pipelines and CO2 transport
Practical Workshop

Gas market scenario: teams model the commercial structure for a 15-year LNG supply agreement, pricing the volume, flexibility, and destination provisions and running an NPV sensitivity analysis.
