Day 1

Offshore Industry Overview & Structures

Understand offshore field development concepts, structure types, and regulatory framework.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

Offshore Field Development

  • Offshore field development lifecycle: concept select to decommissioning
  • Concept selection: fixed platform, FPSO, TLP, SPAR, and subsea tieback
  • Water depth categories: shallow, deepwater, and ultra-deepwater
  • Field architecture: number of wells, tie-in philosophy, and processing location
Module 2

Fixed & Floating Structures

  • Fixed steel jacket: design basis, pile foundation, and weight management
  • Concrete gravity structures (CGS): Norwegian applications and design
  • Semi-submersible: column and pontoon configuration and motion characteristics
  • Tension leg platforms (TLP): tethers, air-can buoyancy, and deck mating
Module 3

Offshore Regulatory Framework

  • MODU code: mobile offshore drilling units and flag state requirements
  • SOLAS and MARPOL: safety of life at sea and marine pollution prevention
  • UKCS: PFEER, DCR, and MAR regulations
  • BSEE and API RP 2A: US offshore structural design and safety requirements
Practical Workshop

Field concept comparison: teams evaluate three development concept options for a provided deepwater discovery, scoring each against technical, commercial, and schedule criteria.

Day 3

Subsea Systems & Production

Understand subsea production equipment, flow assurance, and subsea engineering.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

Subsea Production Systems

  • Subsea wellheads: permanent guide base, tubing hanger, and tree types
  • Subsea manifolds and flowlines: geometry, pigging, and sled design
  • Umbilicals: hydraulic, chemical, electric, and fibre optic functions
  • Control systems: hydraulic, electrohydraulic, and all-electric subsea controls
Module 2

Flow Assurance

  • Hydrate formation: prediction, inhibition (MEG, methanol), and remediation
  • Wax deposition: pipeline thermal modelling and pigging frequency
  • Asphaltene precipitation: inhibitor injection and coiled tubing remediation
  • Emulsions and scale: chemical treatment and downhole scale squeeze
Module 3

Subsea Installation & IMR

  • Installation vessels: pipelayers, crane vessels, and diving support vessels
  • ROV operations: tooling, work class ROV, and light inspection ROV
  • Subsea intervention: well intervention, tree replacement, and manifold repair
  • Inspection and monitoring: pipeline survey, anode inspection, and structural monitoring
Practical Workshop

Subsea system review: teams map the subsea production system for a provided field architecture, identify flow assurance risks, and design the chemical injection strategy.

Day 5

Offshore Structural Integrity & Decommissioning

Apply structural integrity management and decommissioning planning to offshore assets.

8 hours 3 modules
Module 1

Offshore Structural Integrity

  • Fatigue assessment: S-N curves, hot spot stress, and FatFRAM
